USAID/PHCPI Informational Materials Increase IDPs Access to Vaccination - SUCCESS STORY

For USAID’s Primary Health Care Project in Iraq (PHCPI), awareness and improvement of vaccination coverage has been a key element in addressing Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 4, which calls for the reduction of child mortality. To support these efforts, USAID/PHCPI has developed vaccination and cold chain management guidelines, created IEC materials and trained vaccinators and supervisors on Iraq’s expanded program on immunization (EPI).

MDGs 4 & 5: Supporting the Reduction of Maternal and Under-Five Mortality - FACT SHEET

Beginning in Fiscal Year 2014, PHCPI focused its technical assistance on helping the MOH meet its Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 & 5 of reducing child mortality and improving maternal health in target project areas. The project developed a package of low-cost, high-impact interventions for improving maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH). Using the project’s capacity building strategy, PHCPI, in partnership with the MOH, has updated a number of clinical guidelines related to MNCH.

Local health committees work in partnership with clinics to increase demand for and use of primary health care services and create a link between community needs and primary health care service delivery through advocacy for community health needs and priorities and active participation in clinic’s quality improvement processes.
